Ad Council Announces Record-Breaking Support from the Outdoor Industry

The Ad Council announced on June 9, 2003 that it received more than $82 million in donated media space from the outdoor advertising industry for its PSA campaigns during 2002 - the largest support from the outdoor industry in the Ad Council’s history. Outdoor advertising support of the Ad Council’s PSAs increased by 68% from 2001.

 

“The outdoor advertising industry has been supporting our PSA campaigns literally from the start when we were founded as The War Advertising Council more than 60 years ago,” according to Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of The Advertising Council. “Through a challenging economy and a difficult year, the industry’s support of our important messages was extraordinary. On behalf of the Ad Council, I am incredibly grateful to the outdoor industry for continuing to recognize the importance of public service advertising to improve and save lives in America.”

 

The outdoor advertising industry is also making a significant donation of advertising space for the Ad Council’s Homeland Security campaign designed to educate and empower American citizens to prepare for potential terrorist attacks.

This nationwide commitment is preliminarily valued at more than $17 million.

 

Across all media, the Ad Council received more than $1.3 billion in donated advertising time and space in 2002. The support marks the fifth straight year that Ad Council PSA campaigns received in excess of $1 billion in donated media.
