Millions Drawn to Anti-terrorism Campaign

Date: July 21, 2003

Summary:

Body:

Millions of Americans have obtained information on preparing for terrorist attacks, thanks to a national public service advertising campaign.

The outdoor advertising industry is a full partner in the “Ready.gov” campaign, committing to post more than $17 million in public service messages in various outdoor formats.

Since the multi-media campaign was launched by The Ad Council in February, it has generated heavy response:

  • More than 1.4 billion “hits” on the Ready.gov website, sponsored by the US Department of Homeland Security.
  • More than 2.6 million downloads for brochures that provide practical information for planning for future attacks.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge personally thanks the outdoor industry for its role in the public service campaign, during his keynote address on June 10 at the OAAA/TAB National Convention and Trade Show in Washington, D.C.
