Public Service
The outdoor advertising industry regularly provides free advertising space for charitable causes, a practice dating back to the turn of the century. The industry donates millions each year to local and national non-profit groups that can’t afford paid advertising.
Most local outdoor advertising companies have policies and procedures pertaining to the acceptance of a charitable organization’s PSA. Usually an organization must be non-profit and not paying for advertising in another medium. Outdoor companies donate the monthly advertising space fee on a space available basis. In most cases outdoor companies donate posting fees, but since this entails real labor costs, some companies do not. The public service recipient receives broad market exposure for 30 days or more.
The OAAA provides support and sponsorship for numerous national organizations and facilitates campaign contributions from outdoor advertising companies. More information can be obtained by calling the OAAA at (202) 833-5566 or via email.
AMBER Alerts
OAAA is an AMBER Alert secondary distributor. OAAA is directly linked to the NCMEC database, allowing participants to receive and post AMBER alerts within minutes of the system being activated.
FBI Digital Billboard Alert Network
The outdoor advertising industry has partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to deliver important messaging in certain critical situations. When the FBI is attempting to find a suspect believed to be in a certain geographic area, the Bureau may issue a “Hot Pursuit” Alert which is displayed on digital billboards in multiple states. A similar process is in place for urgent information regarding security threats to the United States. The FBI will use the system to publicize those 10 Most Wanted fugitives who are believed to be in the United States. For more information, click the link above or contact Jeff Golimowski (
