Haiti Relief Efforts

The catastrophic earthquake in Haiti has killed as many as 50,000 people and displaced up to 3 million. The American Red Cross, First Lady Michelle Obama, and The Advertising Council have teamed up to provide public service announcements seeking aid for the devastated nation.

The following creative has been authorized by the American Red Cross and The Advertising Council for use on digital units only. For traditional billboards, bus shelters, and other formats, the Red Cross asks you post the standard Red Cross creative or generic disaster relief creative (available here) because of the changing nature of the Haiti crisis.

For more information about outdoor advertising public service efforts for Haiti, please contact OAAA Communications Director Jeff Golimowski (info@oaaa.org) at (202) 833-5566.

The outdoor advertising industry regularly provides free advertising space for charitable causes, a practice dating back to the turn of the century. The industry donates millions each year to local and national non-profit groups that can’t afford paid advertising.

Most local outdoor advertising companies have policies and procedures pertaining to the acceptance of a charitable organization’s PSA. Usually an organization must be non-profit and not paying for advertising in another medium. Outdoor companies donate the monthly advertising space fee on a space available basis. In most cases outdoor companies donate posting fees, but since this entails real labor costs, some companies do not. The public service recipient receives broad market exposure for 30 days or more.

The OAAA provides support and sponsorship for numerous national organizations and facilitates campaign contributions from outdoor advertising companies. More information can be obtained by calling the OAAA at (202) 833-5566 or via email.
