OAAA Releases List of OBIE Contenders for ‘02

Winners to Be Announced June 20 in New York

Washington, DC (April 1, 2002) ~

The Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Inc. (OAAA) is pleased to release the list of 2002 OBIE Award contenders. The OBIE Awards recognize creative excellence in outdoor advertising, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of the competition.

Fifty-four agencies will vie for Best of Show honors. Twelve will take home OBIE Awards, 37 will take home Merit honors and 62 others will earn Finalist certificates.

Among the agencies with multiple entries are many perennial OBIE favorites. Last year’s Best of Show winner, BBDO Canada, is at the top of the heap with nine entries in the running for their Pepsi-Cola work (7UP, Pepsi, Mountain Dew “Code Red”). Arnold Worldwide (Boston) wound up with eight finalists (for JetBlue, Monster.com, and Volkswagen Beetle). DeVito Verdi came in with seven entries (For Eyes, Primedia TelecomClick.com, and Pro-Choice Education Project). Leo Burnett USA’s five entries include their work for Kellogg’s Nutri Grain and, of course, Altoids.

Winners will be on display on Thursday, June 20, at a gallery reception at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Gallery tickets can be purchased through the OAAA website. Members of the media interested in attending the gallery should contact Sheila Hayes.
