The Ad Council Honors Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago with Silver Bell Award to Recognize Generosity in Public Service

Autism Awareness Campaign Helps Increase Illinois Website Traffic by 63%

Los Angeles (May 20, 2013) – The Ad Council today presented Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago with the prestigious Silver Bell Award at the 2013 OAAA/TAB National Convention & Trade Show is Los Angeles. The Silver Bell Award is presented annually to media outlets that exemplify exceptional generosity and leadership in supporting public service messages.

Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago supports Ad Council public service announcements (PSAs) year round, not only on billboards and bus shelters, but also on out of home (OOH) advertising formats. Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago has had great success in placing PSAs in airports, transit stations, and on digital billboards along major interstates. The group has also been diligent in providing the Ad Council with accurate reporting of digital billboard placement, offering new accountability metrics for public service.

“Because of Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago’s strategic approach to campaign selection and placement, their efforts have positively impacted results for our campaign partners,” said John Ingersoll, Farmers Insurance, and Ad Council board member.

Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago supported the Ad Council’s Autism Awareness campaign on bulletins, posters, dioramas, digital billboards, and commuter rail between 2011 and 2012, during which time Illinois visits to the national Autism Speaks website increased by 63 percent.


Ingersoll added, “The decisions Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago made really did help move the needle, and for that they have our heartfelt thanks.”

In total, the out of home advertising industry last year donated more than $285 million in advertising space to Ad Council public service advertisements.
