Winter Legislative Conference & Legal Seminar
The OAAA Winter Legislative Conference & Legal Seminar will be held February 16 and 17 at the Sonesta Beach Resort on Key Biscayne, near Miami, FL.
This is your chance to learn what works in the legislative and legal arena; find out about cutting-edge research; and discover best practices. You can even burn a few calories in a world-class ocean-front resort.
Attorneys can also earn CLE credit (continuing legal education) for attending the Legal Seminar.
Don't miss out on these exciting opportunities:
"These legislative conferences are the most concentrated assembly of expertise in the industry. With so much brain power in one room, let's learn from each other. Let's share best practices," said Randy Romig, chairman of the OAAA Legislative Committee.
The format of the one-day Winter Legislative Conference on February 16 is designed to be interactive, so that every participant will return home better equipped to tackle challenges facing the industry.
Attendees will learn about just-completed traffic safety research that will help in court or at city hall. Plus, new tools are on tap in the areas of vegetation, dark skies (night-time lighting), aesthetics and taxation.
One of the most vexing issues facing the industry is the future of nonconforming billboards. In Florida, the outdoor industry, government and scenic groups are working on an innovative - but challenging - effort to allow new billboards along the test area of I-75 in exchange for taking down old, nonconforming wooden structures.
Ken Towcimak, chief of right of way at the Florida DOT, will explain the project from the state's point of view.
The top legal minds in the industry will participate in a one-day Legal Seminar on February 17.
"This high-end curriculum sharpens the skills of practitioners who live and breathe outdoor issues every day, and it's excellent training for newcomers or generalists," said Nancy Fletcher, OAAA president and CEO.
One panel features the general counsels of Clear Channel Outdoor (Laura Toncheff), Lamar Advertising Company (Jim McIlwain) and Viacom Outdoor (Bob Micsak).
The Sonesta Beach Resort is a prime oceanfront tropical island 20 minutes from downtown Miami. The Sonesta offers a spa & salon, resort shopping, water sports, tennis & golf, sailing & deep sea fishing, and much more. The hotel has provided a complimentary resort fee which entails entrance to the spa/fitness center, use of tennis facilities, and beach chairs/umbrellas.

(The OAAA Legislative Committee and OAAA Board of Directors are scheduled to meet Sunday, February 15 at the same location.)
